Clinical Mechanism:
The PRF technique (Choukroun et al. 2001) involves centrifugation of whole blood without anticoagulants. This process yields a fibrin clot rich in platelets and leukocytes, acting as a natural reservoir of growth factors (VEGF, PDGF, TGF-β). These are gradually released, accelerating bone and soft tissue healing in surgical sites.
Indications for Use in Aesthetics:
PRF may be prepared and applied by registered health professionals for use in:
-
Autologous injectable protocols as part of aesthetic procedures performed in clinical practice
-
Supporting soft tissue integration following minimally invasive interventions
-
Adjunctive use in procedures involving dermal and subdermal tissue application
-
Preparation of autologous biomaterial for clinical use in aesthetic medicine
What is PRF?
Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) is an autologous platelet concentrate derived from the patient’s own blood. PRF contains platelets, fibrin, and growth factors and is used in clinical procedures to support tissue healing and regeneration. Blood is collected into the tube and centrifuged without anticoagulants, producing a fibrin-rich layer for clinical application.
Regulatory Status:
ARTG-listed Class IIa. Official Process for PRF® product, developed by Dr. Choukroun creator of the Process for PRF® (Platelet Rich Fibrin) technique (A-PRF, i-PRF, & S-PRF).
